Sorrento (Mornington Peninsula) and Brighton Bathing Boxes (Melbourne)

It doesn't really have to do with food and cooking, we'll get back to food soon, but these are some really nice views.

Mornington Peninsula is about an hour's drive south from Melbourne. There's not much land further south before Tasmania. Sorrento is one of the beautiful cities on the peninsula with some gorgeous beaches.

Brighton is a suburb of Melbourne and the beach is home to iconic and colorful bathing boxes.

  1. What are bathing boxes for?
    Are they like apartments?
Do people own them or rent them?

  2. The bathing boxes are for changing and storage of beachy things such as surf boards.
As I understand, the boxes are rented for at least a year at a time.
There are less than 90 left on the beach as many have been lost to storms or disrepair. When the boxes are licensed to people, they are responsible for their upkeep.
People are allowed to paint them as they choose, but it must be within the guidelines set by the council.

  3. Ooooo, the council...

    Those are such happy colors!
    Did you find any starfish?
    Perhaps a komodo dragon?

  4. I did see a starfish or two, but they'd washed up on the beach.
    Nope. No komodo dragons.
